Selection Process

1. Entrance Exam:

  • BDes Programs: Most IITs offering BDes programs require a valid score in the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED). UCEED is a national-level entrance exam conducted for admission to undergraduate design programs across various institutes in India.

  • MDes Programs: The entrance exam requirement for MDes programs can differ between IITs. Some common exams include:

    • Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE): This exam is typically mandatory for students from engineering backgrounds applying to MDes programs.

    • Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED): This exam is preferred for students with a design background.

    • Some IITs might have their own entrance exams for MDes programs.

2. Application Form and Portfolio:

After clearing the entrance exam, you'll need to submit a well-prepared application form along with a portfolio showcasing your design skills and creativity. The portfolio requirements can vary based on the program, so check the specific program website for detailed instructions.

3. Shortlisting and Interview:

Based on your entrance exam score and portfolio evaluation, shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview. The interview might assess your design thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and motivation for pursuing the chosen design discipline.

4. Final Selection:

The final selection will be based on a combination of your entrance exam score, portfolio evaluation, and interview performance. The weightage given to each component can vary depending on the specific program.

Here are some additional points to remember:

  • Minimum Marks: Along with the entrance exam, some IITs might have minimum marks requirements in your previous qualifying degree for both BDes and MDes programs.

  • Work Experience: While not mandatory for all programs, some MDes programs might give weightage to relevant work experience.

Preparation Tips for NID Exam
