Toy and Game Design

What is Toy Design?

Designing toys is a creative process that isn’t just about fun. It starts with finding ideas and then sketching them. Toy designers also do plans, thinking of the kind of game they need to create, who’s going to play it, and even if they want the toy to educate something. They transform sketches into prototypes, some of which are just little brothers, to see how the toy operates and make it better. Toy designers are an exciting kind of artistic engineer who must know how to draw, sculpt, and possibly even work at a computer to build prototypes. They must also be aware of how materials operate to ensure that the toy is healthy, durable, and manufacturable. They often work in groups with advertisers and engineers to deliver their concepts. In the end, toy designers are creating more than products; they are shaping how children experience the world through play.
