Overview

The NID Entrance Exam, also known as NID DAT (National Institute of Design Design Aptitude Test), is the entrance exam for admission into various undergraduate and postgraduate design programs offered by the National Institute of Design (NID). NID is one of the premier design institutes in India, and securing admission here is a dream for many aspiring design professionals.

Exam Structure

The NID DAT is a two-stage exam process:

DAT Prelims:

  • This is a written test conducted offline. It assesses the candidate's creativity, observation skills, design aptitude, and general knowledge.

DAT Mains:

  • Only shortlisted candidates from the Prelims are eligible for the Mains exam. This stage consists of a studio test and a personal interview. The studio test evaluates the candidate's design skills and problem-solving abilities, while the personal interview assesses the candidate's motivation, portfolio, and understanding of the design field.

For B.Des Programs: Candidates who have passed 10+2 in any stream from a recognized board are eligible to apply.

​For M.Des Programs: Candidates with a Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university can apply.

Selection Process

  • Candidates are shortlisted for the DAT Mains based on their performance in the DAT Prelims.

  • The final selection for admission is based on the combined scores of the DAT Mains (studio test and personal interview) and the DAT Prelims.

Important Notes

  • The official notification and brochure for the NID DAT 2025 exam will be released by the National Institute of Design (NID) around October-November 2024.

  • The application process typically starts in November and closes in December.

  • The DAT Prelims exam is usually conducted in January or February.

  • The DAT Mains exam is conducted in March or April.
