NIFT

The National Institute of Fashion Technology Entrance Exam (NIFT) is a national level entrance exam conducted by the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) for admission into various undergraduate and postgraduate design, fashion technology and management programmes offered by NIFT campuses pan India.

NIFT Exam Highlights

Eligibility:

  • Passed Class 12 or equivalent examination from a recognized board.

  • Minimum marks criteria varies depending on the programme and category.

Exam Mode:

Offline (pen and paper based)

Test Structure:

  • Two parts - Creative Ability Test (CAT) and General Ability Test (GAT)

    • Creative Ability Test (CAT): Assesses design aptitude, observation skills, and creative thinking. (For B.Des and M.Des programs only)

    • General Ability Test (GAT): Tests general knowledge, comprehension, communication, and analytical abilities. (For all programs)

Duration:

2 hours (for GAT) and 3 hours (for CAT)

Marking Scheme:

Positive marking for correct answers, negative marking for wrong answers in GAT.

Who Should Take the NIFT Exam?

NIFT Exam Pattern

The NIFT exam pattern consists of two parts: Creative Ability Test (CAT) and General Ability Test (GAT).

  • Creative Ability Test (CAT): This test is conducted only for candidates applying for Bachelors in Design (B.Des) and Masters in Design (M.Des) programmes. It is a 3-hour long test that assesses a candidate's design aptitude, observation skills, and creative thinking abilities. The test typically consists of three drawing questions that test the candidate's ability to use elements of design, composition, and colour theory.

  • General Ability Test (GAT): This test is mandatory for all candidates applying for any programme at NIFT. It is a 2-hour long test that assesses a candidate's general knowledge, comprehension, communication, and analytical abilities. The GAT syllabus covers a wide range of topics including English comprehension, logical reasoning, quantitative ability, general awareness, and business acumen.
